Moments That Define You
You know that moment after a long, hectic day when the house finally goes quiet the children are asleep, the emails are sent, and you can finally hear yourself think? That’s your window.
For working mums, “me time” doesn’t have to mean an escape; it can start right where you are, with the soft flicker of a candle and one long, intentional breath.
Me Time, Redefined
Me time is simply about claiming a few moments in the day that are purely yours. Light a candle, let the scent fill the room, and give yourself permission to slow down. Maybe it’s a few quiet minutes before everyone wakes up, or those ten golden minutes before bed when the world finally lets you rest. It’s not about perfection; it’s about presence.
When you pause to breathe, really breathe, you create stillness in the middle of the chaos. That’s where you find your calm, your clarity, and a little trace of yourself again.
Moments That Restore You
You don’t need hours to unwind, just a few mindful rituals:
- Start with scent. Choose a candle that speaks to your mood—lavender to soothe, citrus to uplift, or sandal wood that helps to relieve stress & anxiety, also helps to enhance mental clarity.
- Breathe deeply. Inhale for four counts, hold for two, exhale for six. Let everything heavy roll off your shoulders.
- Transform the ordinary. Light a candle while you bathe, stretch, or cook. It turns routine into ritual.
- Disconnect to reconnect. This is my trickiest one, put the phone away, dim the lights, and let the soft glow pull you back to the present.
- Create a night time cue. When the candle burns low, it’s your gentle reminder that the day is done—and rest begins.
- Add a diffuser to your office - I have tried this recently with a sandalwood scent, this has really helped improve focus and attentiveness while helps you to remain calm.
Let Go of the Guilt
You are not taking time from your family—you’re giving them the restored, peaceful version of you. The one who laughs more, breathes slower, and feels whole again. Me time isn’t selfish; it’s the quiet maintenance that keeps everything else running.
So tonight, when the house drifts into silence, light your candle. Let the flame dance, breathe deeply, and remind yourself—you deserve this moment.
